What Works
for Me …
Might not
work for all authors. And vice versa.
I am not
Nora Roberts, Suzanne Brockmann, Jaci Burton, Sara Brookes or Eve Langlais.
These are some very successful authors – all of whom I respect and read
faithfully (and only to name a few.)
I’m a
writer whose journey is probably slower than others but I’ve seen much success
with my own writing and am very comfortable with the journey I am on. I have
had high moments and low moments, self-doubts and wonder about the decisions
I’ve made when it comes to publishing.
But I have
made MY OWN path. What has worked for me – from the stories to the promo to the
connections online I’ve made – and it doesn’t work for all of us. Each author
has to make his/her own journey and in the end, respect and not regret any
decisions made.
Would I
love to be any of the above success stories? Certainly! But the ones I’ve
listed above are examples of different journeys, and ones I have watched take
flight over the years, and I am proud of all of them. Their journeys are
inspiring and I am sure haven’t been without trials and tribulations as well. I
just know that what has worked for them might not be what does for me, and vice
versa.
In the
end, authors choose their own way and have to learn from mistakes and know when
to grab hold of the brass ring for things that do work. As much as I would love
for my path to success to be faster and even bigger, I know that in due time, I
will get where I want to be.
And I’ll
probably continue to reach higher.
It’s a
matter of never, ever giving up.

A
Romantica® erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave
As she crossed the threshold, a man looking out the window
turned.
Daaaaamn. What a fine
specimen.
At least six feet tall with a strong jaw, short dark hair
and a silver stud earring in his left ear. Her insides quivered. Dark jeans, a
white button-down shirt and a black leather jacket made him sexy and masculine.
She guessed him to be in his late thirties.
She’d never met Adam in all the years she and Bobby had been
friends, and damn if she wasn’t disappointed she never had. He was a gorgeous
man. She’d missed out on a lot.
“Hello, Mrs….”
A tad nervous about her reaction to him, she lowered her
eyes, then eased the door shut behind her and turned the lock. They needed
privacy. Smiling, she slunk into the room. “Why don’t you sit down and get
comfortable?”
He frowned, then tilted his head to the side and scanned her
body up and down. His baby blues widened when they landed on her red stilettos.
Lark grinned. So the studmuffin wasn’t used to women who
dressed like her. Good. Made it all the more fun to entice them.
“I’m sorry, am I in the wrong office?”
“You’re here to see Bobby, correct?” She knew he was, but
didn’t want to give the game away.
“Yes I am.”
“Then you’re in the right place.” She drew open the sides of
the belt keeping her jacket closed. Working it apart in deliberate slow motion
to heighten anticipation, she again instructed, “Have a seat. I don’t bite.”
She smirked. “Unless you ask me to.”
He watched her, eyes bulging as she pushed the material off
her shoulders and laid it over Bobby’s desk.
Shock and uncertainty flooded his eyes but was quickly
replaced with interest and heat as he took in her scantily clad body.
Good. She liked his full attention on her.
“I’m not sure what’s going on here. Are you Bobby’s
secretary?” She opened her mouth to speak but he raised a hand and ushered her
to hush. “I’ve never seen a secretary look like you.”
She laughed, ignoring his question about her identity, and
winked at him as he sat in the chair in front of Bobby’s desk. “Oh this old thing?”
She gestured to her red silk crop top, her black lace bra showing through, and
her crimson leather skirt, which was so short her panties would surely show if
she bent over. “Just something I threw on this morning.” She moved in front of
him and leaned her ass on the desk.
He grinned and stared up at her. “What can I do for you?”
“Oh honey.” She retrieved her cell phone. “Ask not what you
can do for me.” She pressed the music button and selected her dance playlist.
“But what I can do for you.”
