This is book one of three for characters Zoey and Andy.
Zoey James is in a funk. She has been through more in her twenty-three years than most people have experienced in their entire lives. After her ex-husband tries to take everything she’s worked so hard for, she makes one rule: Never date someone she works with.
When her father’s newly hired mechanic moves into the apartment above their family-run business, Zoey’s lonely life is flipped upside down.
As a teenager, New Zealand native, Andy Tate’s family is tragically killed in an accident, and he is taken in by his aunt and uncle. Andy is pulled away from the only place he’s ever known as home, and moved halfway around the world to Northern California.
Ten years and one failed marriage later, Andy finds himself living in a new city, with a new job at James Racing, and living in an apartment next door to Zoey, his new boss’s beautiful and damaged daughter.
After an interesting chain of events over one weekend, Andy and Zoey form an unexpected bond. Even though he’s the only one who can get through to her, she will do all that she can to keep him at a distance and not break her one rule.
Will Andy be the reason for Zoey to start living her life again, or will she continue on her downward spiral, until she finally hits rock bottom?
This book is intended for readers over age 18 due to mature content.

When I started reading The Reason, I first had my doubts on whether I would like the story
because of the abuse that was involved. After I started reading I was pleasantly surprised that not only did I enjoy the book but I loved the way that Jen has written the characters.
Zoey didn’t have the best start to life. Her mom who is a known druggie. Being left at home for days on end to fend for herself. .The precious neighbor lady from next door becomes her saving grace when Zoey goes to her after. Zoey isn’t your average girl, she works in what we refer to as a man's world (Car Shop). Fresh out of high school Zoey marries her high school sweetheart. Rob (whom I want to throat punch) is the a lowlife in my opinion. He wants the wife, but when life gets tough, he runs. Life has a funny way of making things happen when Zoey finds herself alone and very insecure until she meets Andy.
Andy- The loveable kiwi who has had the most tragic of tragic things happen to him come to the united states for a fresh start. After living with his aunt and uncle for some time he decides to venture out on his own and finds a job working at a shop that Zoey’s dad owns.
Zoey swore off men that worked for her dad after her split with her ex-husband. Andy. He is different. Andy is one of those guys that girls everywhere would want in their life. Andy is Zoey’s knight and shining armor. All in all Jen has written her characters very well. I feel as if I have lived in Zoey’s life from cover to cover. I cannot wait to start my journey into Just Say Yes.
