Tessa is visiting her hometown for the first time since her breakup almost nine months ago. Even though it’s just a short visit for the Fourth of July weekend, it kills her to be there. She and Phillip had made so many memories, both good and bad there—but her loving family is so worried, she has to go back.

Heartbreak and regret make each day worse than the last, but still she refuses to take back her ex. In fact she has sworn off men all together…until she gets roped into a blind date with a soldier. She doesn’t want to go, but even she can’t say no to going out with a soldier on the Fourth of July.

The last thing she expected was the tall, dark, and handsome man that showed up to take her out. Garrett awakens a long dormant part of her as soon as she lays eyes on him, but can he heal her shattered heart?

Sarah's Review:

I received this book as a gift from a friend who thought it would be a great read for the 4th of July since the setting is the 4th of July.   I have to say that I started and read it all in the wee hours of  the 4th of July.  I only planned to read a chapter, but I got sucked in and finished it.

What I loved most about this story was that it truly is a romance story.  The sad stuff happened prior to the book's beginning, so we are reading about our heroine healing. She does discuss some of the bad stuff, but it was important to know.

I loved Tessa's father and how he saw through Tessa and the emotions she was going through.  Her father was able to help Tessa see that the break-up she experienced was opening the door to something great.  I loved how her father was protective but knew how to make Tessa see what she could miss out on if she let Garrett leave without trying.

Garrett, oh Garrett!  I loved everything about him.  He didn't push on their first date, he made Tessa see what he saw and didn't let her go.  The only flaw was his arriving late on their first date.

This was such a sweet story that the only thing I was disappointed by was the shortness of the story, ONLY because I wanted more.
