Words are funny things.

Their meaning, the pictures they paint in the minds of those that hear them: they’re not always the same and to me at least, that makes them meaningless.

Take for instance the phrase ‘black widow’. Those words conjure the image of a spider, an eight-legged creature with the red imprint of an hourglass on its abdomen.

However, instead of speaking of an arachnid, of the resident of a spindly and dew-laden web, the people who whisper those words are talking about something much different.

They’re talking about me.

From what I’m told, I’m called the Black Widow because no man I’ve ever loved has survived.

Yet, I have no memory of any of it.

My new home leads me to the definition of another vague and meaningless word.

It’s a place where I’m supposed to seek refuge.

A place of retreat and security.

It’s a place where I’m supposed to be kept safe because I’m sick.

But the definition for this place is wrong and the word becomes meaningless when you’re tucked away and made silent by drugs and pretty white jackets.

My name is Alexandra Sutton and this is the story of what happened when I was imprisoned inside an Asylum.

My Review

To say that I loved this book would be an understatement. I have read everything that Lily has written and I have to say this, by far, is the best I've seen from her. It has every element we have come to love about Lily, dark, twisted, demented with twists and turns that will have you shaking your head asking yourself, "What did I just read?!?!""  I had several of those moments myself.
I read this book in one sitting because I could not put it down. You get drawn in from the very beginning and you need to see what happens with these characters. The book is well researched, well written and a total mind fuck to the 1000th degree. There is no way to figure out just what is going on until the very end. Lily is certainly NOT predictable. It's like reading American Horror Story if AHS was on HBO and written by Lily White, which I don't think is a bad idea.
A 5 star MUST read for every lover of dark psychological erotica.

excerpt
I couldn’t contain my anger. “I didn’t kill anybody! I don’t even know who those men are…” “Do not raise your voice with me, Ms. Sutton. I’ve allowed your quirks in behavior thus far, but I’m growing tired of your insubordination. While under my care you will learn to control your outbursts or else you will be restrained both physically and chemically, if necessary.” “Through drugs, you mean. You’ll dope me up to a point where I can’t fight back.” “If that’s what I must do. Like I’ve said, I don’t prefer that type of restraint, but in certain cases, it can’t be avoided.” Standing from his chair, he rounded the desk to stand in front of me. I craned my neck to look up at him, my muscles tightening painfully with anger and the refusal to believe that I’d done any of the things of which I’d been accused. It wasn’t until he was close enough to touch me that the notes of his cologne wafted beneath my nose – something haunting and exotic, masculine and earthy. I shivered at the smell, looking away from him and grasping my hands together in my lap to the point where my short fingernails dug into my skin. “Look at me, Ms. Sutton.” I did as I was told because there was no point in fighting back. A slow roll of recognition penetrated my thoughts, the abysmal circumstances of this place, the futility and harrowing truth that I was under their control. Any hint of rebellion and I would be dosed into compliance, drooling on myself while nodding my approval of whatever horrible thing they had planned. They stripped you of your strength, your voice, your entire being, and replaced it with the structure implicit to an institution for the insane. “You are my patient and as such, you are under my control and also my protection. I will not hurt you in any way. My only job is to help you. However, any rebellion on your part will be met with equal force. Do you understand?” “Yes sir.” I spit out the words, angry that I was answering to a man I didn’t even know. “That’s a good girl.”

EXCERPT
“How was your day?” she asked, with the intimacy of a long married couple.

I crossed to the bed and sat beside her, inhaled her scent, the intoxicating mix of expensive bath products and her unique underlying flavor.

“It was good,” I replied and felt her lean towards me. She pressed her little body against mine with such a familiarity that for a moment I almost dropped my guard and flipped her over on the bed for a fuck.

Instead I lifted my arm and let her snuggle in, cozy herself against me and hoped she didn’t feel my heart throbbing against my ribcage in surging desire.

“I was kinda bored,” she said, “is there any way to get cable in here? Maybe internet access? I’ve watched all the DVDs you provided and I’ve read every book a couple of times over.”

That was impressive, I hadn’t thought her the type to read so quickly. She’d been with me almost two weeks now and didn’t seem like the brightest bulb in the box, as they said.

“No cable,” I told her, not wanting her to see the recent coverage on the disappearances from the Waffle House, hers included. “I’ll get you Netflix, how’s that? You can watch movies and TV and such.”

“Sounds good,” she replied, “any chance of wifi or a tablet or something?”

“Not yet,” I said, “Billy’s still out there, who knows where he’ll be watching and waiting to find you. He’s apparently pissed that you got away. I’ve heard through the grapevine that he’s willing to pay top dollar to have you killed.”

She flinched when I said it and dropped her gaze to the floor. “Did you talk to him? Did he…say anything?”

“I haven’t spoken to him directly, I’ve just heard things. You don’t still…care for him, do you?”
“Oh god, no. I don’t know why I wasted so much time with him in first place. I’m so embarrassed that I stuck with him, that you saw…”
Her voice trailed off and she felt stiff against me. She was highly self-conscious of her terrible choices, her shitty background and her impoverished upbringing.
Perfect.
I could deconstruct her and rebuild her into the kind of women she should be. The kind of woman who was worthy of being my Pet.
I had about a month to work on her before the wedding. I promised myself two weeks and I’d be taking her to meet the parents.
A month and she’d meet all my friends, be brought into my social circle and seal my status as normal and right on target.
I squeezed her and moved to get up. Her eyes snapped up to my face and she whispered, “Please don’t leave me, don’t go.”
“Don’t you have enough food? Are you running out of pain meds?”
“It’s not that,” she replied.
“What is it?”
She didn’t reply right away so I hooked my thumb under he chin and pulled her to face me. Her startlingly blue eyes were wet with unshed tears. “I don’t want to be alone,” she said, “Please stay with me. Hold me tonight.”
How could I tell her no? How could I deny her my touch?
I thought about the girl strapped to the table in the warehouse and calculated my odds. She should still be alive by the time I went to her again. For that night I decided to hold my Pet, I caressed her and let her presence wash over me, dispelling the red tide that was rising in me even as I sat back down beside her.
She leaned against me again, my beautiful girl, exquisite in her naked vulnerability.
So delicate and so fragile.
So easy to crush if I gave in, just said fuck it and let the red heat rise.
But I didn’t. I fought it and I fell.
Even farther in love.

 MY REVIEW
Volume 2 picks up right where Volume 1 leaves off. Ronnie, Pet, is safely ensconced in Jude's house and settling in nicely to her new routine.  Our favorite serial killer is trying to fight the urge to kill again and Donavon is trying to crack the case that can make or break his career.
We get a better feel for the characters this time around as Jude reveals a bit about his past.
Jude is becoming quite fascinated with Pet. She is perfect for him. She listens, follows his commands and at the same time, scares the ever loving shit out of him, she makes him feel.  Sometimes it's like you are reading 2 separate people, Pet's Jude and serial killer Jude. He changes persona so seamlessly, it's  scary actually. He makes it appear almost like an art form.
Donovan is an enigma. I can't quite get a read on him yet.  I think he  is just as messed up as Jude, in this blogger's humble opinion, and I think he has his own secrets to hide. He's kind of a dick actually, but I think that's why I like him. He certainly can take charge in the bedroom! Just don't question his authority out of it.
This series just draws you in and leaves you wanting to stalk these two until they finish the series. I don't recommend doing that but you get the point.  You wouldn't want them to go all Jude on you. I can't wait to see where they take these characters next and I need the next installment like now!

PRE-ORDER BLITZ: Her Master's Teacher by Lily White

She caught my attention the first day I was seated in her class.
Her dark red hair fell in waves down her back and her alabaster skin appeared to sparkle under the lights of the lecture hall I'd admired her from a distance, never speaking or doing anything to draw attention to myself. Each day that I spent watching her in this room, I noticed how her eyes would flick up to me. She was wary of me - frightened - and she had reason to be. Allow me to introduce myself… My name is Holland Strong and at 21 years old, I'm the youngest Master within a society of wealthy and influential men. Clair Elliot is my psychology professor in college - that is, at least, until I make her my first courtesan. She believes she knows everything about how the mind works… …and I believe I can prove her wrong

COVER REVEAL: Serial Volume One by Jaden Wilkes & Lily White

Links:

Excerpt:

“Would you like me to take you straight home, Sir?” my driver asks as I settle into the back of the company car. It's long, sleek, black and classic. Unfortunately it will also stand out too much in the neighbourhood I want to cruise tonight.
I am just looking. Window shopping if you will. I haven’t killed a woman for almost three months now and I can feel the urge building up in the back of my brain. Work was a bust, it’s a good thing I’m the boss or I would have been fired every damn time I start to cycle. I get so distracted I can barely remember my own name.
I can’t help it, I truly can’t. I’ve researched addiction, Googled the fuck out of everything from, “How do I stop killing” to “Frontal lobotomy results sociopathy” when the going gets tough.
It’s not a morals thing. Don’t get me wrong. I believe I am on a mission and the women who choose me are already dying by the time they accept their fate.
It’s more of an inconvenience and timing thing. I’ve been doing it for over a decade. I’ve killed many, many women. I couldn’t tell you how many off the top of my head, I’d have to count my trophies to be sure, but ballpark around twenty five.
Chances are I’m going to get caught eventually. And I don’t want to get caught. Getting caught will be such a bore. Such a drag. Such a stock fiasco. Our company shares will plummet once it’s realized the head is such a fucking nutjob.
I’m usually very good at business, the thing that allows me to slit the throat of a woman and take my knife to her breast is the very thing that allows me to make logical business decisions without flinching.
Every CEO is a sociopath. They have to be. Business is not very pleasant, and only the worst men with the darkest hearts survive up the tangled rivers of boardrooms and back room deals.
So I try to fight my urges, for my family, my business and for the simple fucking fact that I don’t want to end up behind bars.

PROMO & REVIEW: Hard Roads by Lily White

Hard Roads
by Lily White

Synopsis:

This life isn’t one that I chose for myself.

Years spent as a daughter in the Dominion MC left me washed up and struggling to breathe. Life was never flowers and sunshine. It was gravel and dust, the trails of dirt left behind when the brothers tore out, floating up from the ground to hover in front of an angry, red sun.

I could never have imagined that a life sitting at rock bottom could get any worse, but it did.

Life is funny like that.

Just when you think things can’t get any more bleak, a shade is drawn leaving you staggering and blind – lost in a world of heartache and sorrow.

I met J.D. Brooks on the road and he swept me off my feet. Literally. But not in the way you might think.

He was both an angel and a demon.

He was the most vicious storm that ever darkened my life.

He was also my salvation.

Stripped from the hands that always held me back, I was released into a nightmare that would threaten everything I thought I knew about the crap hand I’d been dealt.

I thought I could never hate a man more than the one who stole me from the life I’d known.

And in our time together, he would teach me one important lesson:

That in the end, it doesn’t matter how our paths intersect, because when it comes down to the basic truth of our lives...

...we’re all stuck traveling down hard roads.

Erin's Review

I haven't found a book of Lily White's that I haven't liked, so when she said she was trying her hand at a mc club book, well hell yeah I jumped on it!
First off, if you want a book that's all unicorns and butterflies, keep walking. This book isn't for you. If you want something raw, that walks on the dark side, with hot steamy sex thrown in, this is your book.
I will say though, for those that need a warning, there are situations that may not be suitable for all people. Don't say you haven't been warned.
Hard Roads is the story of Holly and JD. This is not a conventional love story, JD can be a prick and Holly is a hellcat with claws. Holly's dad got himself mixed up with some things he just couldn't get out from under. Holly is the collateral. JD is her knight on a shining Harley, well......
Holly and JD are not warm fuzzy people. They are rough around the edges, have lived hard lives and  have a wall up so high the best Navy Seals would have a hard time climbing it. It's necessary in their world. To show emotion is to show weakness, and weakness can mean death. It's just that simple.
Lily definitely gives your emotions a work out in this book. You want to slap the shit out of JD, duct tape Holly's mouth shut, you cringe at Diablo and finally, after being drug through hell, you feel salvation.
Let me focus on Diablo for a minute. That man is scary as hell but there's something about him. He oozes sex, power, fear and you know not to cross him. I would love to know what makes that man tick. He's as fascinating as he is terrifying. There were moments when at his compound that I cringed. I have a feeling though Lily only scratched the surface at what Diablo is capable of.
Now, back to Holly and JD. There is chemistry between them, that much is apparent. These two have a relationship built on fear and hatred and we slowly watch it evolve to something more. Neither one of them was expecting it, that's what I liked about it. Holly is much stronger than I would have been. That girl went through hell. I would have buckled under Diablo's cruel hands, not her. She's tough. For me, there was a major shift in Holly and JD's relationship. I refer to it as BD & AD-Before Diablo & After Diablo. AD we begin to see the human side to the 2 of them. Their walls start to slowly come down and instead of feeling anger and hatred, they feel raw. Naked.
You want to see how it ends for these two? Well, read the book. I'm not going to tell you if they ride off in to the sunset on a Harley. I'm not going to tell you if Holly tells JD to hit the road, and I'm not going to tell you if JD leaves Holly just like he found her, on the side of the road. Just buy it and find out on your own. It's well worth it, trust me.
